What is Meloxicam (Mobic) used for?

Mobic is the brand name but meloxicam is also available in generic forms. Both the brand and generics contain the active ingredient meloxicam and both work in the same way. Meloxicam is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) used to treat moderate to severe pain, osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. Some of the common side effects of Mobic are nausea, vomiting, heartburn, shortness of breath, stomach pain, diarrhea, gas and constipation. Like other NSAIDs, Mobic can cause an increased risk of gastrointestinal bleeding and an increased risk of heart attack or stroke.
Do not take this if you have recently undergone heart bypass surgery or coronary artery bypass graft. It may also cause bleeding in the stomach or intestines. Call your doctor or pharmacist if you experience serious side effects or an allergic reaction. It is not recommended that you take this with blood thinners, diuretics and beta blockers. Meloxicam can cause high blood pressure and will make the medicines used to treat this condition less effective. If you happen to miss a dose, you can skip the missed dose and take your next dose on schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for it. Store at room temperature away from children and animals.
