What is Paromomycin Sulfate used for?

Humatin (paromomycin) is prescribed to treat both acute and chronic intestinal amebiasis. Intestinal amebiasis is a bowel infection which is caused by a parasite in your bowels or stomach. It can also be used alongside other medication to help lessen the symptoms of hepatic coma, which is a complication of liver disease. Humatin is part of the class of medications known as aminoglycoside antibiotics. It works to kill bacteria and prevent their growth. This medication is not an effective treatment for the flu, colds, or other viral infections.

    How to Use Paromomycin Sulfate?

Take Humatin exactly as your doctor prescribes. If you take more of it, take it more often, or take it from longer than directed by your doctor. To do so would increase your risk of side effects.

Take this medication with food if possible.

To help clear up your infection completely, continue using it for the full length of time it’s been prescribed, even if you start feeling better after a few days. If you stop your medication early your infection may not leave completely and you risk it coming back. Humatin works best when there is a consistent level in your blood, so take it at the same time daily.

Different patients will require different doses of Humatin. Follow your doctor’s instructions carefully. If your dosage is different don’t change it if your doctor doesn’t tell you to.

The amount of Humatin you take will depend on the strength of the medication. Also, the number of doses you take per day, the time between doses, and the time you take the medication for depends on the medical problem you’re using the medication for.
